“What a fantastic kit! We thoroughly enjoyed the activities in this kit and really enjoyed looking at different myths and legends. We tied it in with discussions about Matariki and Maui. It was so fantastic to gain all the interesting views from the children about what legends they believed in and why. We do a "where in the world"unit throughout the year. We found it great to link all this together into the activities in this kit also. Ka Rawe on another fab experience school-kit.”

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? There were some good cross-curricular learning experiences that wound into the Art and Social Studies, but out class found it hard to make the links.

How did you find the open format of this kit? I found this really hard to navigate and to know how to use this effectively. It was a bit too open ended for me and I, personally prefer the kits that have a little more direction.

“We found this kit was really not overly user friendly. We have a Year 0-2 class and a lot of the material was too complex and beyond the level of understanding of the children. We found that we had to do alot of explaining rather than the children being able to access, think about and respond to the material. The kit would be far more suitable for an older age group, it just didn't work for our New Entrants and Year 1/2 class.”

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? The dice are useful to use part way through reading a book to make predictions or differentiate from the original ending encouraging imagination.

“I love the idea of this kit and have tried to introduce the concepts to my young new entrants. At this stage I feel that the kit is a bit advanced and abstract for them. We discussed the poster and are trying to extend oral language and use full sentences when speaking. The dice will be useful as our literacy improves.”
