What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? We made fences in maths, read poems, looked at mother and baby animals, life cycles.

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? I used this mainly for literacy, both reading and writing. The story, poem, waiata etc. Love the addition of Māori words.

How did you find the open format of this kit? This was the first time using a kit and the open format was great, as you could extend ideas based on class interest and use ideas for online learning during lockdown.

“My class and I really enjoyed using the farming kit and the variety of ideas and links online. We had started to use the kit prior to lockdown, and was able to share videos of some of the activities online, which was great! Our class also enjoyed learning the animals names in Maori and we even learnt 'Old McDonald' in NZSL. The children enjoyed the celery experiment and making connections between the farm and where food comes from. It also opened up the whole concept of farming: not just cows and pigs, but fruit, grain and machinery.”

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? Great for maths, oral language, critical/deep thinking, collaborative work, reading, writing, social sciences .... We used the equipment in lots of ways and the children still use the cards question dice, thing and that for, tokens, ....

“I thought the material was great. There were lots of options on how to use the cards etc. There was coverage for a lot of the curriculum areas and also incorporated deep thinking which is a major focus at our school. The 'townie' children learnt a lot especially from the videos etc. I don't know whether they have a full understanding and a trip to a farm would have been fantastic but it was the costing of a bus that stopped it happening.”
