“Thanks schoolkit for the Grassroots kit, many of us have been surprised about who and how close our connection has been to someone who’s grown up on a farm. Here in the photo, we’re practising our interviewing skills in preparation for our interviews this week. This unit has enhanced our discussion around our school values too”
“Thanks for giving us the opportunity to do the 'Grass Roots' School Kit. Only half the class did it as the rest were at a Sports Tournament, but we loved the chance to do something different. We thought that you learn great values growing up on a farm.”
“We delved into Te Tuia...as I saw it and Grassroots kits to end the term. My class loved interviewing farmers and reading the letters. We made 50 word stories and used card from last year's stationery lovers pack.
Our mini exhibition for Te Tuia included our recounts from the point of view of the objects and some empty speech bubbles to show how some stories are not heard. Pics to come
We are looking forward to beginning next term with Not in My World. Schoolkit team ...you are legends!!”
“Grassroots Digital Story NZ farming scavenger hunt was a hit today! What a great resource. My students then created a challenge around sailing (our actual topic) for others in class to complete in their spare time. They had to cross check the data was on the site before they wrote the questions.”
“Our class really engaged in trying to work out the questions, after we had discussed the claim that everyone had a link to a farm and identified values we knew and values in the letters we turned the letters questions into a game with the winner choosing the colour to highlight, the next game was finding where in NZ the letter had come from.
We finished the term with approx 70% knowing they link to a farm and a bunch of children taking the interview questions/sheet home over the holidays to see if there is a link.”

“A really neat kit that my Year 7/8 class could connect with. Lots of opportunity for new learning. They loved learning about 6 degrees of separation and trying to find connections with famous people! Lots of great discussion was has on the different farm types also.”
