They had to take into account others' points of view and use these to cooperate and plan ahead, think outside the box and adapt and try these scenarios out. Working across groups and within groups also supported this. Taking in the multitude of resources

How has this kit influenced your confidence in STEM teaching and learning? The activities that required building, following directions, and linking the elements were great. The students had to really communicate and focus on the steps taken to ensure success.

“Rm 7 had a blast completing this kit. We created excitement and suspense by having it hidden in the class and then having the children solve a clue to find the actual box hidden on the school grounds. They were hooked from the beginning and worked hard on all the activities to complete, problem solve and work together as a unit and class to see success. It offered all abilities the opportunity to have a say and contribute meaningfully to the task. We Loved it! The research for teachers was invaluable and motivated me to find my own in the form of a book and use this to also read to and remind of the journey as we went and help with decision making. They surprised me with their determination and willingness to follow each step towards an unknown goal. Noone was disapointed with the outcome and all had a blast.”

“The Jean Batten kit has been the best kit I have worked with. It engaged the more reluctant learners while empowering the high ability students. It encouraged team work and allowed students to solve problems as a team and utilise their individual strengths with a variety of challenges (which with patience were not so challenging they were impossible).”

“Wow what an amazing kit. My Year 7/8 class had a blast with this today. The engagement levels were high all day, the collaboration that was happening between a wide variety of students was unreal and the learning was real. The kit was really well put together, with everything we needed. The pig pen code was probably our stumbling block with the dots missing or couldn't be seen but we got there. A great mix of concentration and fun.”
