How effective was this kit in promoting healthy eating in your classroom?
In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Maths - Kids were able to measure the growing plants every couple of days then determine the changes in size. Health - Having vegies as part of a healthy diet and lifestyle. Art - Drawing and taking photos of their plants. Using their vegie as another '
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Science - Where vegies are grown. How plants grow. What they need to thrive. A general wanting to know more about vegies (were the first carrots really purple?!!). Science / Social sciences - How our actions/activities affect the plant and environment. H
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? The focus on vegies as a healthy part of their diet.... they had to design a day's menu ensuring that there was a healthy aspect to each meal. I had the 'eat your colours' idea incorporated into this idea.
Due to Covid, the seeds were sent home as part of an ongoing project of learning at home. The kids planted the seeds then kept a log of photos, information, queries, etc that could be electronically communicated with me and peers. Although was not the best option in regards to using the kit, those kids who participated enjoyed watching their efforts 'sprout' and grow. Specified questions that I asked had the kids looking at different aspects in respect to the vegetables and herbs. I would certainly like to use this kit again but in a more controlled learning environment.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Future learning is what this was/is all about - Great. The children became the experts over time. They have become the kaitiaki - carers and guardians. Sustainability was a word we used a lot. How can we keep the important work going - how can we share an
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Provided a hands on - authentic base (context) ... Garden to plate - Food always tastes better when you nurture/grow it yourself. We were able to focus in on what was grown and how it will help out bodies. Some children tried certain foods for the first
We did so much ... Great to check in with what others are doing to :) Super learning opportunities! Great to have extended vocabulary. In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? This class participates with an 'inschool' model of garden to table, so there are regular opportunities to include recipes, food tech, garden experiences throughout the year.
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Making vege muffins - some to eat, some to share with whanau, some to put in the freezer, for those days when someone needs more food for the day. This meets our school values of caring for others.
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? There was plenty of discussions about the various seeds, uses in recipes, flavours, experiences of growing and eating. Children eat a variety of fruit and veges at brain break time (if possible). There is often subtle pressure from peers to have a fruit o
The class were very excited to have the kit, and set it up. There was a delay as we had other curricular and school wide events that needed to happen first! Then we got into growing. The children liked matching the herb/vegetable seed to their names. There were great discussions about particular seeds that were unfamiliar to some or many. Ideas for use within dishes were shared. Many parents were brought in to see the growth of seeds, and other activities. As we were donated more seeds, we have been able to grow for our school vegetable garden, and some were grown and taken home.

How effective was this kit in promoting healthy eating in your classroom?
In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We used the kit as part of a seasons unit - Spring is the growing time and what plants need to grow. We also measured the growth as part of maths and measurement. We read books such as The Enormous Turnip and made up alliterative names for the vegetables.
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We will continue to use the resources from this kit in future units on plants, seasons and in our Garden to table program
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Some of these were new to some students like borage so we had a lot of discussion around vegetables in general and what they liked or grew at home. We talked about eating lots of vegetables and brainstormed salad recipes!
What a great kit. The tamariki were really keen to embark on the secret mission. We built the clubhouse and potted our vegetable. It tied in really well with a unit we were doing on seasons and other areas like mmeasurement naturally slotted in here too. They also really liked the songs and videos that went with it totoo. Great kit!

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? The children used maths measurement language to talk about the growth of their seedlings and compared heights of the various different plants. They talked about the time it had taken for some of them to grow and noticed that some took longer than others t
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? The children were keen to learn more about gardening and wanted to start a Team garden plot outside their classroom.
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? The children were keen to try some of the vegetables and herbs that they hadn't tried before.
My class really enjoyed the way this kit was presented. They loved cracking the codes and were really focussed when working these out independently or with friends. They loved the fact that they could watch their seeds sprout and compare their plants progress with others. Each day they would come up to me and tell me what changes they had noticed and were very excited to replant their seedlings once they were big enough.

Thank you to School Kit and New World for the awesome resource that you sent our class for term 4. It was a great use for my year 3 and 4 tauira who enjoyed watching the seedlings grow and thrive. My tamariki are a hands on rōpu who love getting their hands dirty almost as much as they love to eat so this ticked all the boxes!
