What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We have planted our own seedlings in a school garden and the children work along the senior school to take care of this daily.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? We tried a lot of different vegetables as a class activity, it help children try new foods but not all persevered with the tastes

“This kit was fantastic to get the children to engage in our topic of the living world. I was able to link this to Maoritanga also using the term kaitiaki, explaining what that was and how the children were now that for the plants. I was also able to link the kit to our school values. Children’s discussions around the kit were great and it sparked a real interest. This resource was fantastic and I gained engagement from the whole class.”

Literacy: We wrote recount stories about our favourite vegetable story, we wrote factual pieces of writing about certain vegetables and we did explanation writing about the process of becoming a LGL member. Maths: counting seeds, measuring growth. Scien

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We are talking about and learning more about becoming increasingly environmentally friendly and how they can help even as kids.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? My students are more excited to eat vegetables as they have grown them themselves. They want to try new veges and fruit and were happy to be involved in the growing process. They loved finding out vegetable and fruit facts.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Learning through: Reading, Maths, Written Language and Inquiry. This kit sparked the interest of the children which opened up the doors of enthusiasm and wonder.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We are going to enter our class garden into a community competition at our local AandP show. Taken our little gardens to the next level!

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? The students in my class already ate a range of vegetables. Interest in different herbs has risen, but not yet exploring with how they add taste to different dishes.

“Kids loved learning, growing, tasting! The secret codes and the mystery surrounding the membership was fabulous, a real winner. Would be great to have seen more activities, options for the kids or an on-going incentive, what next, where to now etc - option to encourage the little gardeners to take it to the next level.”

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We have linked to it for our Ag Day exhibits - all their Inquiry posters are on display and we have themed cupcakes and have made vegetable animals. The fun never ends!

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Healthy eating - had blindfolded tasting of vegetables and they tried a lot of new vegetables. All kids tried every vege - was great.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We were able to incorporate this across all curriculum areas as part of our inquiry topic on a farmers market.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? This unit was an excellent opportunity to discuss sustainability and how to care for papatuanuku and also healthy sustainable living for us in return for caring for the planet as a source of sustenance.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Growing the seeds from scratch promoted a deeper level of thought and the children were motivated to find out more about the plants they were growing

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Students ended up doing their own research projects on one of the vegetables. This meant they did reading, writing, researching, visual art to present, and more.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? The students took their plants home and had the opportunity to discuss their plants with their families and show them what they'd learnt. It also will have encouraged them to learn more about replanting and taking care of a larger plant as it gets bigger.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? This kit led us to bringing in vegetables and talking about them. We also tried a range of vegetables and the kids were amazed. They realised they loved so many more vegetables than they initially thought.

“My class LOVED the Little Garden League. They enjoyed the videos, stories, class photo, etc. It set a great foundation to take our learning further about the various plants we were growing. The seedlings worked so well and it was fun planting them. Every morning the students raced in to see how theirs was doing.”
