What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Continue to grow the plants and learn how vegtables form, science observations on the fertilization of plants, pest control - experiments with natural alternatives

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Students have been engaged in learning about vegtables, it is too early to see if it has promoted the eating of vegtables.

“Perfect for engaging new entrants. A great mix of background story to capture their attention, Hands on activities to keep them involved and introduction to new experiences which extended their knowledge and vocab. Required the perfect amount of time for the activities but also allowed for me to add extra activities to extend the students in a personal way. Only improvement would be to start it at the beginning of a term so that the plants could be repotted before the holidays.”

“This has been a really wonderful kit. A lot of the children already had experience with the seedlings from New World but had not learned details about each vegetable. The school kit was a fun way for students to connect with the characters. They really enjoyed decoding the secret messages and chose to write their own. We really had a lot of fun with this kit thank-you!”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Message decoding was a great authentic way to support reading, science is at the core of the LGL looking at sunlight, growing cycle and so on. Creativity in documenting the growth of the plants - photos everyday. Maths - measurement.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? All children interested in food so cooking - different ways of cooking what has been grown. Link to the from Garden to table project. More science and growing of plants - sunflowers in particular.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Talking to each other about their favourite vegetables has added an extra layer to the learning they were doing around litter-less lunch boxes and healthy eating.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We used these in our play based zone. Children enjoyed planting these and discovering the new ones. There was rich discussions using new vocab - germination etc.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Continued planting and learning the joys of gardening and growing your own. Family school link.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Children were talking about different vegetables they enjoyed and parents commented on how they were trying new things at home.

“The children really got excited about this unit. The intiation process was lots of fun and they enjoyed wearing their badges. We sent some plants home with the children to grow with their families and some at school. Over the holidays we have sent them home to some families to look after and we will hopefully plant them into our school garden in Term 4.”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? This tied into many areas of learning that made it easy for us teachers. For example, we tied it into maths, Big book learning and poems just to mention a few and also our overaching topic for the junior school - Changes, which tied in beautifully.

This will continue to carry on - we will be planting our plants in the school garden next term, and see how they grow. and taste our vegetables they grew.
