Literacy - writing instructions for planting seeds; Wanted poster for describing a vegetable (labelling); non fiction

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Just the whole excitement of starting a new inquiry - how to hook the children into it etc. It wouldn't have had nearly the same impact had we just received the seeds. Just more of the above comments - it gave context and meaning for so many curriculum ar

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? It has promoted a lot of conversation and children have shared their messages with their parents and are all keen to try new vegetables.

“The Little Garden Kit has been wonderful for the children. They were excited for the challenge to be accepted into the LGL and have thoroughly enjoyed planting their seeds, watching them germinate and learning all about vegetables, how they are important etc. They sat absorbed doing the secret messages, even the kids who usually struggle to complete tasks.”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Looking after something, taking care, eg putting into sun each day and watering. To then draw ans write about our plants.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We will hopefully get to cook with what grows in our garden. We also made punch pots with clay for some of the extra plants we got from our teacher from new world.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Learning about trying New things even sometimes things we might not like and the difference between herbs as well

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? So many opportunities to write about what we did and noticed. Each morning we counted need sprouts and collected data.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Creating a garden and composting. Looking after our earth.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? We looked at the food triangle and we noticed the we need to have mostly veggies or food grown from seed.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? They have seen how easy it is to grow your own food in super fast time. Gardening does not hav to be long and laborious and it is actually something they can do without the help of an adult. The just need the materials to do it.

The seeds all grew in super fast time and the kids can't wait ti get them big enough to start planting in the garden. We have a school garden and can take them there to add to it.”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Writing - application letters Reading - decoding secret messages, finding the same pictures - vege patch match.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? The class love their letterbox. They suggested writing letters to each other and posting them in the box. Hopefully we will be able to do some cooking lessons with our produce!

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? My class really took their pledge seriously. There were stories of children going on playdates and being brave and trying new foods. Normally in class we would have done some taste testing of new and unusual foods but we weren't allowed to this year.

“This school kit was fantastic. Being an Auckland school it was so lovely to come back after our latest lockdown and have such an exciting, fun topic to focus on. The resources that were supplied were excellent. I teach a year 3 class and I wondered if they would buy into the whole LGL that they would have to apply to but they really did, and asked me daily if I had heard whether they had been accepted or not. Our 3 year 3 classes all signed up for this kit and every morning it was the same in each class - children standing around the tray looking to see which plants had popped up in the night.”
