In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We compared and contrasted our experience with the little gardens with an inquiry about man-made technology. There were also linkages to maths and literacy.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Extensions of the many of the concepts we encountered are entirely feasible. Lots of areas to expand on.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Seeing the work that goes into fresh food encouraged the kids thinking about natural food. The excitement and anticipation helped maintain their focus good eating, and sustainable practise.

“Wonderful experience for the kids. They prepared the beds, raised the seedlings, watered, composted and waited with eager anticipation. It's great for them to see the whole cycle. It gives them a greater appreciation for the things they eat and where they come from.”

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? The game helped with this but other than that not really it didn’t fit with our overall focus so we could not give it as much time as we may have liked

“The card game was cute and could be adapted for new entrants but the kit felt a little thin in terms of content and much of what there was, was not suitable for new entrants”

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Some are still growing vegetables and helping in the classroom. Our next step would have been to focus on the healthy eatingl.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? We went down a slightly different path as the students were interested in learning about growing plants etc (while we did so in class). They did become more aware of what types of veges they eat and their family bought each week.

“The Kit was a wonderful learning experience for the class. We used it as the 'hook' to learn about the life cycle of plants, parts of plants and how plants grow. The class enjoyed the coding and 'math' thinking and also did some amazing report writing about what they learned. They even wrote a persuasive letter to explain why they should be LGL club members. Thank you for the effort and time that your team put into the kit. We also discussed enjoying and eating vegetables and found out about each other's favourite veges.”

“This was an engaging and fun School Kit. My y 0-4 class loved learning the names of the founding members, cracking the codes and watching their gardens grow. We also we very kindly gifted a raised garden bed by our local New World so we were able to continue the process. We plan to eat the vegetables in the last week of term.”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? It provided us with a basis for some additional reading and discussions as a class around the science of growing plants.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? It linked nicely into our Health unit about caring for our bodies etc and we could make connections between the two.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Children have become more familiar with a variety of vegetables, fruits and herbs that they didn't already know about. They also have been encouraged to try new things.

“The Little Garden Kit was a great resource for our class. The children had high engagement with the whole idea and set up. They were very excited to grow the seedlings and take them home.”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? wwe were able to easily incorporate this kit into our 2020 theme of Guardianship. We also included the activities in our existing Garden to Table programme

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We will continue to use the kit next year when we visit our local market to purchase fruit and vegetables as part of our healthy eating inquiry.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Our Students were fascinated with how different vegetables looked as seeds and seedlings. Identifying and grouping different vegetables was a vital part of their learning. many of our parents shared how the children were discussing vegetables at meal time

“As always School Kits delivered a quality resource to support our overarching 2020 theme of Katiaki (Guardianship). With the help of New World we were able to grow and care for a full set of vegetable seedlings which we have grown and added to our school gardens.”
