How effective was this kit in promoting healthy eating in your classroom?
In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We have incorporated LGL in with our maths, science, art, writing and reading, HPE and Te Reo alongside our whole school focus on Te Whenua.
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We will be utilising ITC to make posters about our kai, also creating a classroom cookbook, and looking at community service by providing our school whanau with extra kai as the plants produce.
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? this kit has been supported by our school having Life education visit as well. The challenge from both LGL and Harold has resulted in the children all tasting veggies in different ways to what they have normally had, such as making and tasting basil pesto
The Little Gardners kit arrived at a time where it supported our Inquiry Topic of Whenua. The tamariki have been very excited observing their seedlings growth, and have taken up the challenge of Grow Protect Taste throw their daily monitoring and tending of their seedlings, designing of school gardens and have been willing to try new recipes that incorporate their veggies. This kit has provided a lot of oral language opportunities, development of maths skills through measuring seedlings and graphing their growth, Health and PE focus on healthy kai, science with the focus on what is required for things to grow, and procedual writing opportunities as the tamariki write about how we make different veggie based meals.

Our class loved this kit, and it really leant itself to some great inquiry learning. I was amazed at the power the LGL had - kids who are normally very reticent at trying new things tried some crazy vegetables! The kids really believed in the story and the learning became important and real. Thank you so much!

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Yes it has been extremely effective. We've learned about super foods, vitamins, a healthy balance, and which foods are really good to promote to others who don't enjoy veggies. We have many converts to Carla carrot in our class!
Oh my goodness, my class of year 1/2's have been so engaged with being members of the LGL. They have learned so much about healthy veggies, and we have extended the learning to use all sorts of vocab we wouldn't have otherwise been exposed too. The children particularly enjoyed code cracking, and monitoring the growth of the veggies each day. The characters you created made it all come alive - thankyou so much school kit :-)

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We are linking the little garden to our minibeast topic next term, where the children will need to create an environment suitable for minibeasts to survive in.
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Children learnt about new vegetables, sharing ideas of how they like to eat them.
Our children and families have been highly engaged in this project from the onset. The first thing the children do in the morning is check on the growth of the seeds. They often refer to the video of the roots growing out of the seed when no shoot growth is evident. Some of the plants have now been sent home to be replanted in home gardens. The resources provided are great and have made it easy to reinforce learning.

Our children liked all the different types of seeds and to watch them grow. We are learning a lot about germination in our Year 1 class. The growing vegetables make us happy and we get to see which ones grow faster and taller. We have loved cracking the codes over the weeks.
