In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? They learned about the different vegetables. Some had never tasted a few of the vegetables and agreed to try them.

“My students loved planting their plants. They looked up to see how long it would take their seed to germinate and excitedly measured to see how much it has grown every second day. They looked after it very well and took it home at the end of the term to be repotted. They are now tasting their produce and sharing their experiences with each other.”

How effective was this kit in promoting healthy eating in your classroom?

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Used the coding exercises which relates to our digital curriculum. Promoted different activities such as; imaginative writing using pictures of vegetables as prompts. Also, spelling lists with vegetable names.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? I would use the kit in future to: get the students to develop plans with vegetables which included planning of ways to use them in meals. Also, detailed learning about how to garden and companion plant vegetables in the students home gardens.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Absolutely! It sparked fantastic class conversations about healthy food and recognition of vegetables and how we may use them.

“This was a fantastic kit to use with my classroom. It introduced some children to vegetables they had never heard of before! The children were most excited about watching their seedlings grow. Having the club, with the pledge and badge gave the whole kit and extra appeal for the students.”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We learnt to take turns and share garden equipment when doing this. We also incorporated measurement into this activity with measuring out soil, and measuring water to water the plants.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Measurement for growth - and lots of discussion about the weather and how it affects our plants,

“This kit was amazing - I was lucky enough to have assistance in my classroom this year who loved doing this project with my class. Unfortunately some of our plants got ruined during the 2 week holiday, but others we managed to put in the green house and are growing beautifully.”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We are using different key competencies when looking after our plants and talk about what type of learning is happening.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Could lead to cooking, maths, writing and reading about looking after, harvest and cook with our vegetables.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? We are still in baby steps on growing our plants but are very excited to our little seeds sprouting. We talk about eating our own harvest and will talk about healthy eating in near future

“We had a great time plating our seed and looking after our garden. We have a little corner in our room where we have our plants and watering can and rules and treaty on looking after our little plants. Children came up with their own rules on watering and looking after their plants kn their own and help out when their friends are not absent. We are focusing on key competencies in our room and it links close to participating and contributing, managing self and relating to others.”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Used as prompts for writing and received some of the best writing from the tamariki. Maths, learning statistics and looking at what the favourite vege was in our class, inquiry learning about the science of our healthy bodies, and wellbeing.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We are planning on using our knowledge of growing to grow sunflowers and other plants to give as gifts to parents at the end of the year.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? The tamariki learned about the different vegetables and connecting to their very own lives. The kit has allowed the tamariki to be active in looking after their plants by watering, checking, watching them sprout. They tasted vegetables they never heard/se

“The tamariki in my class absolutely LOVED the little garden. The range of plants was fabulous. The tamariki loved their plants and enjoyed planting them in our specially designed area. It has been very engaging and they loved watching their plants grow.”

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? This could lead to further inquiries into food and wellbeing.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? This has really made children think about what they are eating and they started noticing when they had healthy or non-healthy food.

“This was a great program. It was a little tricky for us to incorporate, as it was really an inquiry unit of it's own and we had a school inquiry that needed doing as well, however the kids really enjoyed and it walk around the school with their badges proudly on! A lot of it was a bit tricky for our Year 1s and they needed a lot of support. We also left out some of the activities as they couldn't achieve them. The Year 2s in our school did it too and said it was perfect for their age however, I think a bit of it was too sophisticated for our level!”

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Maybe tone it down a bit for the younger children as the school kit is meant for the Middle school kids.
