How effective was this kit in promoting healthy eating in your classroom?
In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We used this with writing as well as maths
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We used this kit to make sure every child learnt how to look after a plant so in the future they can grow veggies even if they live in apartments - so we aren't having another generation of not being able to grow plants. Thank you SO much!
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? It shows the children how veggies are grown and the fact they don't come from a shop wrapped in plastic.
Awesome project for kids

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? We looked at what vegetables were favorites and how they preferred to eat them. I.e. raw and dipped in peanut butter, cooked with cheese sauce and especially yum in a hangi. Children sharing their ideas helped each other to become more aware of each other
Thankyou for once again turning out with an amazing resource for our tamariki. We sent a lot of our plants home with the children when there was a fear we may go back into a lock down but grew more when the children came back to school. In conjunction with our 2 other junior classrooms we were fortunate to have our trade academy build raised portable gardens for us to replant our plants to. The children are very caring little gardeners and are sharing their plants with their whanau including grandparents. Unfortunately I have been off work sick since the last week of term 3 and have only been able to sneak back in to water the plants during the term break and check on growth and learning of the children. They love it and know what a plant ends to grow. Thankyou for the opportunity to share this amazing resource with our children. Whaea Kerri and Roo. 2 students

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Future opportunities would be measuring growth of plants for maths, more writing about plants and vegetables, in science the living world and plants.
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? They learnt about different vegetables, talked about their favourites, wrote about and illustrated their favourite vegetable, looked at how they could bring more vegetables to school to eat for morning teas and lunches.
My class absolutely loved this kit. I had them at the Ï am a secret member of a special society called..."; The loved being a part of all the subterfuge and were super excited to fill in their applications for joining the LGL. Of course their teacher made a real big thing about it. Not anyone could be a member, they only took people who were really serious . The kids were so excited after they posted the applications. I said I was going to take them in person to the League. The kids asked me each day if they had been accepted (I let them wait a little for the results!) Once accepted the kids had to hold up their right hand and say the pledge aloud. It was so cute! The kids were really into it. The highlight of course was receiving and planting the little seeds and watching them grow. Each day we had someone water the seedlings. The demand was pretty high. The kids also loved the fact that secret codes were being sent their way. They had so much fun decoding the messages and felt really important that they had been trusted to receive these messages. The next step is to repot our seedlings as they are getting big. Thank you so much New World and School Kit. This was a fabulous learning opportunity for my class. We have loved every single minute of it!

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We talked about life-cycles for science, what plants need to grow. We did measurement and estimation when talking about plant growth. Lots of fun art-based activities were also created. Writing time covered recounts, instructions and reports.
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We will cover 'plants' again early next year to reinforce learning. It gave the younger children a chance to be involved in taking care of the school garden and hopefully they will realize how special it is and want to keep being involved in caring for it
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? It has made the children aware that there are things you can eat and they can taste just as nice as shop brought food. The lunch doesn't have to be a 'snack pack' from the dairy. The you can make yummy sandwiches with food you have grown. The fact that th
Our Little Garden from sponsored by New World has been amazing. We set our garden up in the class and the children loved watching all the plants grow, especially as they grew at different rates. Heaps of excitement when they popped through the soil. The special part for the class was taking the seedlings out when they were big enough and planting them in the school garden. Many children from the class regularly check on the plants! Our next step is to watch our seedlings and have a tasting time when they are ready. This should be interesting as a number of the children have not tried these foods before. Thanks to everyone involved from us :)

We looked at our environment and healthy eating and looked at what happens within our school, how this is already happening with our older children in the garden
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? This lead us down the path of healthy eating -nude food in our lunchboxes, exercise in our P.E programme and learning about our bodies of what foods to eat- vegetables.
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? We learnt about the different vegetables and their healthy qualities and used it to promote nude food in their lunchboxes for school.
The school kit worked well with our Year 1 class, during our play based time each child planted their seedling and we talked about healthy eating, promoting the different vegetables. When the seedlings started to grow we planted them in our school garden.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? This will form part of our contribution to our schools application for becoming a ";silver"; Enviro School. We will assist in the up keep and harvesting of our school garden, as well as apply this knowledge to other planting projects.

This was the coolest kit!! It was easy to engage students in the hands on / practical tasks - the game, badges, code cracking and of course planting, were enjoyed by all. We had lots of fun posting our application letters and completing challenges to join the Miro (our class name) branch of the Little Gardening League. The teacher notes were easy to follow and there was heap of other links, songs and activities to do as well.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We used it in Maths although the plants weren't very tall to measure heights and how much they grew. Charts for seeds planted and which grew the quickest. Lead to great story writing and challenging them to think from a different perspective. Healthy ea
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? If we had more time with this I would have liked to have a garden plot of our own and continue to add to it with donations from the community of more Little Gardens or other seeds. Unfortunately it was not long to holidays for us and so they needed to be
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? We tasted vegetables and discussed different ways we could use them. Children enjoyed the challenge of thinking of ways to encourage each other to eat or try a new vegetable. Linked this to five plus a day. Challenged children to try something that they t
The children enjoyed the idea that they were belonging to a club and that they had to apply by filling in a form correctly. This did however prove difficult for some and needed a lot of guidance. We adapted some of the ideas to suit the class. They then became very protective of their seeds and liked the responsibility of watering them. Big learning curve with over watering and under watering. The children were very excited when the little shoots started to appear and this kept them interested waiting for the next ones to sprout. The timing of the unit for Spring was great but holidays came along and looking after them meant that they needed to be cared for at home. Overall we found it an enjoyable unit with plenty to keep them on track and engaged. There were areas that we could explore more coming from the unit.
