In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? The coding was a great example of a cross curricular activity. We have been learning Maori words for the parts of plants. We have been writing about plants and doing oral language activities around our plant topic.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We will be continuing to develop our school garden next year - so this topic will remain part of the teaching and learning programme for the new Year 4's.

“As always the Little Garden plant pots are a great success with students. This term our topic is focused on our school garden, so the school kit has been particularly relevant. Students enjoyed completing and earning their badge as part of the the LGL. They are still proudly wearing the badges. Each day, the first thing they did upon entering the class was to check the plants - a very motivating topic.”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? This experience was able to cross through all curriculum areas with ease. The science aspect covered the life cycle of a plant, math with measurement and many others..

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Research development..our children are now keen to investigate how plants can positively impact our environment, earth, people and poverty rates. Thank you.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Science and discussing what plants need to grow.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? What the veges will become. The types of plants and how you can use them. Herbs etc.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Once the plants start producing food I think it will help the children become more aware of where food comes from and will challenge them to try new foods they haven’t wanted to try before because they’ve had something to do with where it’s come from.

The children were so excited to have a wee plant for themselves to plant and grow and they’ve loved taking the time to water and take care of them. There have been lots of conversations about what plants need to grow and what they’ll become. It has made the children excited to see how they can use their plants once they start bearing veges.”

Learning how things grow and survive and how we can help them to thrive. It was also great for maths and we compared the growth of the plants, measured them and graphed the results. There w

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We went on to look at how worms help the soil that the plants need to grow and look at our school worm farm.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? The kids learnt a lot about vegetables and fruits. Most of them didn't know anything about herbs so it was great to have those included as well. We had a tasting afternoon and they discovered that if they were brave and just tried it most of them actually

The kids were so pleased to be able to take their own plant home at the end and lots have kept me updated with how they are growing. In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We tied this into our literacy, by identifying the alphabet/letters on the weekly code and making up our own codes. We used celery and food colouring to show how the plants absorbed their nutrients from out of the soil.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Sustainability

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Children enjoyed growing the food and then knowing what each of the vegetable were. Growing them themselves encouraged them to want to try eating them. They were all excited about being in the secret club.

The secret club had children hooked in from the start and they all proudly wore their badges. They kept the club a big secret and would not share what it was with other children if they didn't have a badge,”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? I was able to teach about Science and this helped with English Vocabulary and oral language.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? To look more in detail about how the physiology of growing plants, to look at the history of kiwis growing gardens at home, to encourage the children to have their own vegetable garden at home.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? We are going to transplant our seedlings into the junior garden beds and then eat them as they are ready!

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? So many opportunities from maths (time) to reading and writing. They enjoyed sharing their vegetable seedlings with others to plant and presenting their ideas.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Our next step will be healthy lunchboxes and healthy kai=healthy whanau

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? We discussed their favourite foods especially vegetables, as well as ones they disliked for various reasons. Just seeing all the different varieties was eye opening.
