In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? *We did some artwork that tied in with our work *Instructional writing about how to grow plants *photography keeping track of plants as they grow *maths-measuring their plants as they grow and comparing to previous numbers.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? *lots of discussion about the environment and what we can do to look after it. Has made a huge impact with my 6/7 year olds-they are now super excited to run fundraising days to put money towards looking after the environment.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? We've been learning about our environmental impact in class and it correlated really nicely with this programme about the importance of eating sustainably with vegetables and fruit. Kids learnt about eating healthy and how to grow their own healthy food.

How effective was this kit in promoting healthy eating in your classroom?

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? The students learnt about pollination and photosynthesis. This was taught through literacy: writing. Students attended workshops about each concept and it was related back to the little gardens they had planted.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? A lot of the students are now keen gardeners and have been teaching their whanau about plants, photosynthesis and pollination. A number of students now have vegetable gardens at home!

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? I believe that students have a better understanding of where food comes from and what types of food we need to eat more of. We have had great discussions about how to use the fruit and vegetables that come from the plants they're growing can be used, i.e.

“Wow, what an amazing kit to receive! The students were hooked from the start. Everything we needed was in the kit. The club house was a brilliant idea and it encouraged everyone to get involved and want to be a part of the special club. The students were beyond excited waiting their turn to choose their plant, not knowing what they might pick. They were mesmerised by the way the soil rose when they poured water over the pellet. Their excitement filled the room when the first seeds sprouted, everyone feeling excited (and the disappointment if theirs hadn't germinated just yet) for each other. The students were so hooked by this topic; it spilt over into many curriculum areas such as writing and science.”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We used this for science in how plants grow, as well as health for healthy eating and we also used it to talk about eating veges to help in sport and exercise as well.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We have also planted some potatoes in our little school garden and we have planted flower seeds this term as well.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Introduced the children to some different plants and herbs.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Working with others, communications skills, we planned out our garden and researched the plants that could go together, maths with measuring how far apart to plant.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? How to care for plants by protecting from the frosts and giving them natural sunlight. How to hygienically prepare food for others.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? The children are excited to eat something they helped grow - has given them ownership.

“Our children loved being able to plant their own little garden. Some of them had them already at home and others were disappointed that their parent didn't shop at New World! So all were very excited. We have a class garden that we are creating so the children can't wait to eat the produce that they helped create.”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Links to our Health unit. We have huge issues with unhealthy lunches fpr our ESOL students so it'll be good for us to cook the vegetables once they've grown and share them with the students so they can see how delicious they are and encourage their parent

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Health curriculum - healthy environments. Eating from the garden, no plastic wrap, plants keep us healthy.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Not effective yet but it will be once they grow and we can eat them.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Children had the opportunity to learn about and talk about different vegetables. It was wonderful to hear them sharing their learning with their parents and whanau and the talk of how they could incorporate some of the vegetables into their meal times at

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? There were lots of cross curricular opportunities within this kit. Science, growing things, seeds, sustainability. Writing and Reading

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Transplanting seedlings into the schools enviro garden and understanding the value of growing our kai is something we will move the children toward.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? There were lots of vegetables that some children had never heard of or eaten. Growing them raised their awareness of the variety of vegetables available and made them more willing to try something new.

“The kit was better suited to Year 2 /3/4 children than the New Entrant children I teach. It did tie in nicely with our focus on kaitiakitanga so having the children plant the seeds and watch them grow was appropriate.”
