What would you say the impact of this kit has been on your students? They engaged with each other in groups and worked together. They now want to learn more about moments in NZ History.

Which resources were most engaging and most useful to students? They loved all the hands on resources, the newspapers and readings. The photos allowed them to question and the posters engaged them in further research. The timeline and poster was a big success and every student could participate.

What would you say the impact of this kit has been on your students? The students learnt a lot especially when they knew very little and was walking away with a lot of knowledge. It was great that they were learning about Nuclear Free NZ.

Which resources were most engaging and most useful to students? Fantastic resources. Our tamariki liked looking at it and were enthusiastic. They enjoyed the stories of the veterans. They enjoyed the videos and the music and it was great that they shared it was their nan's music.

“The materials were superb and easy to do however I struggled to cover all of it. Especially when other topical events happen and we needed to address, for example, the Queen. I find the the resources fantastic.”

It was interesting to see how the Navy was instrumental and affected by the presence of Nuclear political decisions and general policies. The students had little idea of Navy involvement in the beginning.

What would you say the impact of this kit has been on your students? It opened their eyes to historical events in their own backyard.

Which resources were most engaging and most useful to students? All of the veteran's stories and documentaries were helpful and meaningful. The spotify playlist was a cool idea as well.

“The students in my class loved the links to the navy and nuclear energy. In particular they really enjoyed the videos clips. All of the materials provided were so good, really effective for the learning in class. Students spent a lot of time looking at them and working out how they were connected to the learning in class.”

It allowed the students to see that the New Zealand Navy had an impact in the world and worked along side other countries. It also lead to students exploring different roles within the navy in 2022.

Which resources were most engaging and most useful to students? The hands on resources - they really enjoyed exploring them and reading about the different topic points. The biographies were also a highlight.

“We absolutely loved working with this kit. The students were engaged and surprised in how new zealand participated in nuclear testing and how we stopped. The website was very helpful for the students to research and look deeper into the topics that interested them. They also liked the hard copies as they could take them away to their desks and read them.”

This part was great but also the timeline was very large for what the students actually had to do. Having it half the size would have been better as well an an answers sheet for the dates as a few we had trouble with.
