It is obvious that a lot of research has gone into preparing theses kits. They give a unique perspective on events that have taken place in our recent history as is the case for the Bomb Gone unit. The kits give a different method of presentation each time that keeps it interesting. The Aotearoa NZ History unit gave a broad perspective on events that are relevant to students today. How did this kit build awareness and understanding of the NZ Navy and it's contributions to our history? It related closley to our theme of power and was an awesome way for the students to learn. It also helped because it had a lot of information I wouldn't normally find online so a great kit.

This has generated a greater awareness of the NZ navy and also has comparison for what is happening now in the navy compared to the past. This has also been important for student who have relatives in the navy and has given them a greater exploration as part of the inquiry mahi.

What would you say the impact of this kit has been on your students? The kit has enabled the students to learn more about our history and nuclear power. This also has meant that there has been a greater awareness of the content because they only view us as nuclear free. Although we have a much greater history than what is currently reflected at present day.

Which resources were most engaging and most useful to students? The sites are good because it enables them to explore the detail in more information.

“I like the teacher guide which came with this resource. This was a shirt guide and this has been easy to use to help apply the knowledge of what we have been looking for in the classroom. The kits are engaging with the resources which get the ākonga exploring and looking at the concepts in greater detail.”

“A kit with a wide variety of resources to hook/explore/ become curious with. As a class we appreciated looking back at what lead to NZ making a such a stance. The tangible artefacts allowed students to become aware that there was a lot of actions and events that took place to them now living in Nuclear free Aotearoa.”
