How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? Has increased my confidence manyfold. The resources provide an example of engaging learning activities that I feel I could use as examples for my own planning.

“Have not completed this kit but found the photos and stories linked to photos very engaging for both myself and the students. There is lots of NZ history here that would be lost if this kit had not been made. The School Kits are focused on some little known history that is still very important for all us to know and understand. This history shapes our future and especially the future of our students”

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? I will try this kit again with my class next year. I might support them more and hope they can create their own about their families.

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? We used it as part of staff pd to help initiate the learning of NZ histories curriculum. It has made me allow for mire discovery rather than fact finding. Piecing bits together, not just who, what where when.

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? As the kit encourages the Inquiry cycle definitely feeling more ready to deliver the new Aotearoa Histories curriculum. Was good to get a little start on it by using some of this kit.

“Great to be able to share with the children the experiences of such a variety of people from New Zealand. Kit was beautifully resourced and presented meaning all required resources were easily accessible and relevant. Tied in really well with Term One topics of Treaty of Waitangi and Our people and Navigation so the class could build on these experiences from using the kit to gain further understanding. Haven't finished teaching the kit though as I want to wait until next year to teach the kit comprehensively and in its entirety to tie in with the new NZ Histories curriculum that we will be required to teach. This kit definitely looks like it will tie in exceptionally well to help the teaching of this new document.”

How has this kit motivated you to explore the history or your local area? Could you use this model? I think I would research the area and stories then chose some aspects for the students to unravel. Perhaps source some old photos or make something for my students to investigate.

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? I have gained an insight into a range of different Aotearoa Histories. I did not grow up in New Zealand, the kit gave me clear starting places that I am sure I would not of discovered myself.

How has this kit impacted your confidence in delivering the new Aotearoa NZ's histories curriculum content? I have just learnt so much from this kit. I have recognised a real passion in myself in learning authentic NZ history. It has been fantastic in terms of knowing where we will start with the 7 & 8 children next year.

“It was quite overwhelming at the start, trying to get the children hooked into something that they hadn't realised is super important to know. I have been relentless about respect and care and the reasons why this kit needs to be taught. We have spent a lot of time learning and researching some stories together, before they chose their own in groups. It is the most amazing kit I have ever seen and I know I will bring it out again, and again to teach from. I absolutely loved both the teacher and student websites. Well, well done!”

Definitely - as I said it piqued our interest in other events that may have happened in our community - or people in our community that have been part of historical events (ie we knew of a person who had been on the Wahine when it crashed!). “This was such an amazing kit to get the children to look at the histories of NZ. For us, we really honed into our local history of Jack Lovelock - this had more buy in from the children as Timaru Boys High School is here and they know it well. They also have a high interest into Adolf Hitler and World War 1 due to other curriculum areas that had connections to this (ie literacy - novel studies). Using the online tools to look at the places/artefacts was a hit and we all learnt so much - it actually peaked their interest to look further into our local history and see who else was famous and follow their timelines. We loved how easy the lesson plan format was to follow and the children found the artefacts very interesting. Easily one of the best things we looked at to introduce the children to our NZ Histories - they are buzzing and are freely using all the other artefacts/cards to investigate NZ further.”
