“The learners were engaged and enjoyed the lessons. The Charge station was very popular and learner were able to understand the concept easily. Learners became better at reading social cues as we went through the showing of feelings with actions, no words a couple times. The learners learnt about being resilient and how to bounce back from challenges.”

How has the kit helped to develop prosocial behaviours? Boys and Girls have been working and playing together frequently in large groups. Accepting of differences and inclusive to all. Developing empathy and compassion. Using communication to solve problems.

How have the components within the kit influenced the relationships in your classroom community? Those children who think differently, play differently, or are very shy, quiet have been included in play and lunch. This has continued positively throughout the year, with whole class often seen playing together.

How have the components within the kit helped develop your students understanding of what a respectful relationship is? It has helped my class to recognise that we are all different and sometimes even our best intentions can be picked up the wrong way. We have to communicate clearly with others. We worked on the theory that no one gets left our or left behind.

“Great physical materials to use and the way everything was organised made it easy to pick up and teach from. The kids enjoyed sharing their opinions, thoughts and feelings with each other and were able to use their new knowledge on their own in the playground, without a teacher, etc. The new vocab that students learnt as well they were able to explain and describe their feelings more. How has the kit helped to develop prosocial behaviours? Being able to move to the charging station for a recharge was great and saw some of my more ‘aware’ 5 year olds learn the skills to ask how they could help their peers and move to play with them.

How have the components within the kit influenced the relationships in your classroom community? Using the playground challenge has helped the children play with a variety of others - the tricky thing with a NE class is that there are always newbies joining the group.

“I thought this kit had some good activities to use with my class. I liked the discussion cards and the play lunch project. They were engaging to my class and they loved putting stickers on each others charts - it was amazing having a different colour for each child! I felt that some of the activities were too advanced for my New Entrant class and it would have been better suited for probably year 2/3 age group. I really liked the connection with home postcards. It was great being able to link what we had been learning at school with home.”

“the playlunch project was interesting and took some time. worked well within our Te Wahre Tapa Wha work - sorry di this in Term 4. Will be using the ideas in term one next year - thank you. loved the range of activities this kit provided and will use the whanau sharing ideas and questions to build a collaborative classroom.”
