This kit has sparked so much learning and concern in our tamariki. They are only Year 2 (six/seven years old) but care deeply for their environment and the animals and life growing within it. This learning has impacted our day to day at school and many children have taken it home and shared it with their families. Parents report that their child makes sure reusable bags are used when shopping and encourages everyone in the family to recycle. This kit is really great because it is so topical right now. The children can relate to this authentic line of study.

Our tamariki thoroughly enjoyed this kit - although the unit was cut short due to Covid. The unit tied is in perfectly with our topic which was about Animal Habitats. The tamariki loved learning about the local rivers in more detail and enjoyed making the mock river system in the sandpit which reflected the rivers and streams in which rubbish in our area could travel to. The clean up was hugely successful with teachers commenting on how amazing our school looked after it and what pride the tamariki showed when completing the clean up. The analysis was interesting, we managed to collect a range of material but definitely discovered common themes among the bags. The tamariki loved their gloves! Overall, this was a amazing kit which provided some really rich learning experiences for all - thank you.

This unit was really engaging for the kids. It created lots of discussion in the classroom and also at home. Children were coming to school and talking about what they were doing at home to help. In the class children were really aware of rubbish and where it needed to go. The biggest piece of learning for them was realising that the rubbish around our school could end up in the drains which connected to the ocean. When walking around the school children would pick up any rubbish that they saw. This unit made the children motivated to help look after our environment.
