How has this kit impacted on your class culture? This kit had a great impact on our students. Made them more aware of the need to be more careful with their rubbishespecially plastic which can end up in the waterways and into the ocean. They learnt the impact has on our sea creatures.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? At first we tried cleaning local reserves that lead to the lake but these were extremely clean and there was nothing to pick up so we moved to. Plan B - cleaning our school playground areas and beyond (our school flows onto a lake).

We also put up the pictures of the marine life on the wall with the rubbish attached, which was quite confronting for them. Great impact! We also aligned the Sea Cleaners resources with another sea unit, which added to the impact.

How has this kit impacted on your class culture? Great to make models and connections to our local environment. This allowed students to work together to problem solve.

In what ways did this kit impact student attitude towards environmentalism? Good to see how our actions have consequences for the ocean even though we are not in a real close proximity. Our tamariki love swimming in our awa so we used this as a way to make a connection and to keep our local waterways clean for us to enjoy.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Due to COVID we could only do our school grounds. After our initial clean up the students still continued to find rubbish in their own time and report it. We intend to go around our local neighbourhood, particularly focusing on and in gutters and drains.
