What was the community impact of your volunteering project? Students chose to fundraise for a charity of their choosing - the SPCA. Whilst this wasn't a local, community based charity, it was the cause the students were most passionate about. They fundraised through a variety of ways including selling produce, bak

We ended up making the SVA project an optional 'ako plan' activity, as we didn't have enough kits for our team (and our school likes to offer the same opportunities across classes/year levels). The students led much of the programme; it was fascinating watching them unpack the box and use their initiative to make sense of the teacher resource, the five steps and fairly distribute the resources. The project reminded me a lot of a Christchurch City Council project initiated after the earthquakes, for which students in my class submitted their ideas about how to improve our central city. In retrospect, it was really interesting and useful giving the students ownership over the project - I just helped facilitate.

Rooms 4 and 5 at Beaconsfield School have had an amazing time planning their volunteer day and have been busy painting fences and benches as well as weeding and tidying the flower beds to tidy up the gardens.Lots of busy people working to their strengths and offering their time and energy to help the local community. Thank you School Kit - another fabulous kit!

What was the community impact of your volunteering project? The gardens looked noticeably tidier and parents were able to see this and acknowledge the work of the SVA. My class have come up with some other volunteer work such as painting the playground wooden perimeters as they are looking quite unsightly.

Due to an increasingly busy time at school due to Covid-19, I didn't get to carry out all the volunteer missions that I would have liked to have carried out with my class. Instead, due to lack of transport and parent helper, we stayed within the confines of our school. My class chose to focus on looking at the outside environment and picked up rubbish, weeded the vegetable gardens, watered the plants and dug over soil in the six flower beds by the Senior playground. The kaitiakis were happy that we helped to keep the gardens look nicer with less weeds. The teachers appreciated the SVA for carrying out this volunteer work as well.

What was the community impact of your volunteering project? We have a school vegetable garden now. The produce will be used to provide meals for those in need. The meals are prepared by the Parish volunteers and they rely on donated food. We can now donate cabbages, silverbeet, and carrots.

What was the community impact of your volunteering project? Our youngest learners are finding school hard, the COVID impact has meant that they are coming to school with often challenging behaviours. Our SVA leaders are mentoring them in the playground, and utilised the kit to plan a mini fun day project for them,

I have had the pleasure of supporting over the years social skills groups of students - great kids who have some social skill development required. The SVA kit allowed us to develop goal setting, strategies for dealing with conflict, how to be a role model and leader and importantly the values of commitment and service. They learned to put others first, and to serve in order to make their school a better place. We had fun together, and our social action includes making great use of 60 litres of slime (expired jelly) to make a mini fun day for our youngest learners in the school. Thank you for the valuable opportunity to participate!

Fantastic kit! Really enjoyed sharing the origins of SVA. Did have to modify it to make it smaller and more manageable due to timetable constraints and trying to fit every part of the curriculum in. We combined it with Pink Shirt Day - reduced the amount of leaderships roles, but everyone applied for the positions after identifying their strengths.
