We at Reremoana love the SVA school kit. It was our second time participating and in many ways it helps with the process of checking in with student agency. It was great to be able to make a difference in the lives of others :)

This is a great project to run. I wish it could have been a better year and that children would have gotten more out of it. They loved creating and being able to work in teams to a common goal.

What type of project did your class undertake? Food Bank Project, Fundraising, Project for Those in Need
This was an amazing kit- our theme for term 3 was ";connected"; the students chose four events all with a 'green' theme' AND GIVING BACK TO OUR WIDER COMMUNITY,OUR PARISH,OUR WHANAU AND OUR SCHOOL COMMUNITY. We cleaned up Sumner beach( here in Christchurch) the Year 8 students have made reusable bags at Fabrics Technology- which are being gifted to our elderly parishoners, they held a mufti day, bring a coin and a can, and 3 fridays of non perishable food items which we then distributed the food to 38 families at our school, the last one is Enchantment Under the Sea, a themed disco for the whole school. Because of Covid levels this has had to be postponed until Term 4. The money raised on the mufti day pays for the sausage sizzle, sweets and glow sticks. We have photographs of all of our events which we will post after the disco on SchoolKit facebook page.

What was the community impact of your volunteering project? Our project was not only helping those in need but also allowed the students to see first hand how their actions can make a difference. None of my students had been aware of the Women's Refuge and had never had to consider having a birthday in a situation

I liked that fact that the kit has evolved. I have done this kit with my class for four years now so it is good to see a change. The kids felt they had earned their wristbands and were proud to receive them.

My Year 1/2 class hadn't been involved with volunteering prior to this. We decided to keep it very simple . The volunteering tasks were: Pick up rubbish around the school and bring cans of food to school to send to the Compassion Soup Kitchen in Wellington. We were able to present our contributions to The Compassion sisters at our Syndicate assembly. As a Catholic Primary School we were able to combine this within our Faith planning .

Kids have enjoyed the kit. We have made it manageable during this time. With the focus of supporting students of need in our community. With school restrictions of not being able to go outside school grounds. Students have taken the lead to run a project to support vulnerable students in the playground. We are still in the process of completing this project and having the final day next term (going well with time)

What was the community impact of your volunteering project? Raised funds for local cancer society as one of our students is virtually blind through having brain tumour. Raised awareness about this student and his challenges, yet highlighted the fabulous attitude he has.
