Kia ora koutou I apologise for the late reply! We usually feedback with the syndicate (Toroa) as we plan together. We have thoroughly enjoyed the Student Volunteer Army unit. Our syndicate has planned activities to give back to the community. In fact, we, Toroa Syndicate will be picking up rubbish at Graslee Park tomorrow, Thursday 2 December. We will be having our second zoom with Sam (SVA). We also had a bake sale and raised over $900 dollars. We haven't decided where the donation will go to. The students have come up with a few organisations that they think can put the money to good use. We thank you again for the resources. Getting the students to understand the role each person plays is very important. Having a zoom conversation with Sam was also very useful. The students asked Sam some great questions regarding his volunteer work. The students realise that to execute a good plan requires commitment from everyone involved. The students are also realising the behind the scenes work, that is, the planning and making sure that everyone involved is on point. If not, that backups are put in place. For example, the 'what if' scenarios. Again thank you for the resources. We do count ourselves fortunate to be included in these kits. Ngā mihi

What was the community impact of your volunteering project? We hit a few road blocks. As our student teacher found the project over whelming, we had to push our timeline tight back. As a class we managed to get all of the planning, budgeting, campaigning etc completed to a high standard. Unfortunately when we put

This is an awesome resource! The kaupapa of SVA teaches our tamariki to look outwards rather than inwards. The class loved the process and felt like they had true ownership of the project. We had leaders emerge in a range of areas. Art (advertising posters), drama (proposal video for our tumuaki), writing (scripts), maths (budgeting) and so on. 10 out of 10 would recommend.

Room 13 Statistical Rubbish Investigation in our community. Room 13 students worked in teams to not only collect the most rubbish but to categorise each item and create an investigation to identify any patterns within the items collected. Overall, more than 4 big bags of rubbish were obtained and takeaway packaging was the worst offender followed closely behind was plastic packaging. The activity was good for the students to see how much people litter and we need to work to together to make a difference. Many people tooted there hoots and gave us thumbs up for making a difference to our community, which was nice to see. Thank you for this opportunity.

What was the community impact of your volunteering project? We fundraised money for students in Fiji who do not have much resources. We ended up with collecting picture books which could be distributed to students of need.

What was the community impact of your volunteering project? Students repotted 116 plants and harvested kowhai seeds at a local native plant nursery. They also learned a lot about the importance of nurturing native plants in New Zealand. The outcome was two fold as while they were giving, they also gained knowledge

The student volunteer army kit is always engaging for learners and is an amazing opportunity to 'give back' to our community. To connect with our learning focus, students volunteered at a local pant nursery where they worked to harvest kowhai seeds and to repot some flax. Having the Student Army structure really engaged the students making it their impact, not just teacher driven. Having the wrist bands and badges really pulls the students into the experience.
