What type of project did your class undertake? Food Bank Project
Great kit. Kids loved that they got to work with others members in our hub to come up with project ideas. Our hub decided to do a food drive to help out our local kai shed. We were able to repurpose empty boxes that we had been given, and decorated these in a festive manner.

What was the community impact of your volunteering project? The local river really benefitted from the clean up day we organized. The local iwi got involved and we all felt so good about contributing to our local area in a positive way.

What was the community impact of your volunteering project? This is still a work in progress. Discussions with the students indicate their desire to volunteer in the community. Time is against us in terms of completing this element of their learning this year.

What type of project did your class undertake? Fundraising
It has focused the children to learn about an area that interests them and collaborate with peers who they wouldn't necessarily work with. The resource was helpful in terms of sparking ideas.

Kia ora team, I did struggle to make this kit more Year 0-1 friendly but the tamariki led the way and what a success this has been. We started with planting sunflower seeds and from here related it to planting an idea. We spoke about Ta Koha (giving without receiving) and came up with a plan to support tamariki in our area that aren’t as lucky as we are. We decided to become elves like Santa and donate toys for tamariki from our own homes. We came up with a plan 1 letters home to inform parents 2 bring in donations 3 categorise 4 sanitise 5 take picture 6 wrap and add pics for those to give to appropriate tamariki 6 donate to local organisation. I was absolutely blown away by my 5 year olds and have never been more proud of what they have achieved. We are in the final processes of wrapping and giving to a local food bank. This kit has taught our tamariki that there are others that are less fortunate and that kindness goes a long way. We have also discussed how lucky we are to have what we have. Thank you so much for this experience and I know it he tamariki will remember this in years to come. Naku to rourou nau te raurau ka ora ia te iwi. Ka nui te mihi Seanne Clarke

What was the community impact of your volunteering project? That we enhanced the look of the area, but also had the mindset to create an area to attract more native birds and species to the area. This will be an on-going project for our group and students of the school.

As our last planned community project was postponed from this years Covid lockdown, we have been lucky enough to plan, a project helping out to plant and care for a community garden area near our school.

What was the community impact of your volunteering project? We created 10 Christmas shoeboxes for tamariki in our local region. Each shoebox contained gifts for specific students for Christmas. We then delivered to the schools of each student for them to be anonymously gifted.

We really enjoyed using the SVA kit alongside our STEAM projects in order to recognise how we can support our local community. It empowered students to realise their potential and worked together (Mahi tahi) to achieve a common goal.

Because of lockdown and other circumstances, we were not able to fully complete the process but this didn't stop the students involved being fully engaged and motivated in the ideas and actions behind giving back to their community.
