“I realized a couple of years ago that I wanted to return to mechanical watches. I had started using quartz watches about 2 decades ago because of the to-the-second precision and the many functions those watches provide. But in 2009 the iPhone relegated those features to a secondary level of importance for a timepiece to be worn on the the wrist. Instead, I wanted a simple watch with an esthetically pleasing design with the simple purpose of displaying the time. Sternglas watches meet those criteria perfectly. However, many of the Naos products have a relatively thick case (10-13 mm). The Asthet series, however, is only 8.5 mm thick so I decided to try it. After wearing it for a week, I am more than satisfied. The design is very pleasing, from the soft blue of the face to the lovely Fibonacci spiral engraved on the reverse of the case (I am not a fan of transparent backs). Before receiving the watch I was a little put off by the concave shape of the watchface (a design feature that helps permit the slim profile), but to my delight this slight concavity is scarcely noticable on the actual watch. Two other features where the timepiece itself is better that the website photos are the saphire crystal (which does not show glare nearly as much as the product photos) and the date window. I have always thought that watchface dates tend to interrupt the design of the face, but in the case of the Lumare the edges of the date are barely visible, and the clear whit numerals appear almost to be painted directly printed on the face of the timpiece). So, after a week I am very happy with my purchase.”
