“Like all true manly guys, I have an appreciation for finely machined mechanical devices. I'm not a gun guy, and can't see the point in collecting astrolabes, so I decided to get my first mechanical watch since my last purchase 62 years ago — a $10 Waltham. So I began looking. Four years ago. Trouble is, I'm a design snob. I wanted something Just So, a simple, clean and uncluttered, yet elegant design, with case, face and band colors that really spoke to my soul. I didn't want to look like a poseur by getting a Rolex. I found a nice A. Lange & Söhne for $45,000, which was several tens of thousands over my comfort limit. For 4 years I waited, looking at dozens of brands. Finally, I stumbled on the Sternglas Naos Automatic Bronze with the green face. Perfection. And it even tells time.
