Did you put the mat in the dishwasher or wash it by hand before use?
It’s possible that there is still a thin layer of oil on the mat, which is applied during manufacturing to help release it from the mold. The amount of oil can vary from one mat to another. Washing the mat before use is something we should emphasize more clearly on the packaging.
