My car started to play up and I managed to get off the motorway, thankfully, and contacted RAC. Well, when I say contacted, had to use the app to try and give the details of the problem. That was issue No.1. I was given no indication of how long I would have to wait and only received the occasional text message saying someone would come and they would call to let me know they were on their way. After an hour had went by, no call. Just as I was about to try phone to get an update a random garage van pulls up, not an RAC vehicle, and the guy gets out. His device had the wrong info as to what I had reported and thought I had a mis fuelling issue. He was also more upset that someone had damaged his vehicle earlier that day rather than looking at my problem. He couldn’t fix my problem as there seems to be a leak in the coolant system, probably a cracked flexi hose, and he says I need to get an uplift. He couldn’t tell me how long I was going to have to wait for this recovery vehicle but to wait a while and give them a call. By this point I had been away from home for 4.5 hours. I waited a while then phoned. The person that answered couldn’t understand me and I had to confirm everything in phonetics. It took about 20 minutes on the phone to him to only be told he doesn’t know how long it would be before I would be recovered but as I was now only 3 miles from home that I should abandon the vehicle and get someone to come get me and come back later. I informed him that there was no one to come get me or I would already have done so. He was still less than helpful and said I would just have to wait but it could be two hours. At this point I was frustrated and as the engine had cooled down I decided to risk driving it home slowly. I got home 20 minutes later and cancelled the job, again an automated service. I got a call from a random number at 8.30pm, 3 hours after I had spoken to the operator, and he was going to be another 45 mins to get to me. So had I not just said sod it I’m going to risk it, I would still be stranded at the roadside until after 9pm, nearly 6hours later. I have no idea where I would have taken a p**s had I had to wait, plus I have animals at home that were needing fed. Ridiculous lack of service and I would suggest strongly that people look at other breakdown services. I would give them ZERO stars if I could.
