They call themselves ‘The Knights Of The Road’. More like NIGHTS of The Road! You will be still waiting overnight to be rescued and taken home, no matter how early in the day you broke down! Expect to be taken home AFTER ten hours of breaking down. You call them and then: I. Wait for hours for someone to come out to assess if they CAN fix it alongside the road. If not: II. Wait a few more hours for pick up recovery to take you home. Unless: III. You only have ‘roadside recovery’ so they want an extra £300 to take your vehicle to a garage and you safely home. Or: IV. They offer to send you a car for you to drive home, at some point. By which, in the time it gets there, you are most likely be far too tired to drive... V. If your destination is over an 1.5 hours away, the recovery driver can’t take to all the way home, they are limited in how long they drive for, in which case: VI. You will get dropped off at a services, probably on a roundabout which are not situated near roads which is on the route home. Told to wait for another recovery vehicle to pick you up, at some point. Therefore, when eventually you do manage to get driven home, it will be the scenic route. They clearly don’t bother with working out the quickest way home and take you to services on your way home, because, as already outline, their drivers are on time limits and can only drive a certain distance. VII. Don’t expect the next recovery vehicle to take you home either, he may also take you and you car to another services, somewhere to dump, as your home is still considered too far for him to drive too. VIII. Some of these services are very secluded, creepy and may not have car park lights, are most likely to be ‘NOT 24 hours’ meaning there will be nothing open except a garage with a pay kiosk, no toilet facilities open, no hot food or drinks, no shelter, and possibly a small busy hotel on site with no cafe, no customer toilet facilities and likely to be fully booked, if you need a room. A room? Yes don’t expect to get home by 6am... IX. So you may be sleeping in the hotel reception chairs, as it’s not safe sat in your car in a secluded, cold, dark car park in the middle of nowhere at night. X. You call them to find out when someone will get to you as you just want to go home, they’ll tell you they will let you know. XI. Thirty odd calls later to them, as they are not contacting you, you may have to suggest a taxi, why they hadn’t done that in the first place, who knows? In which case: XII. You may be waiting another hour or more, if they can’t get one to come out. After all: XIII. These services are not in a city, everything is shut down for the night, everyone is asleep and you’re at least 30 mins or more away from a town, which may have 24 hour taxi service. If your a lone woman, a vulnerable person, elderly, family with kids, pregnant or a mum on her own with kids, you should be a priority. However, that seems to be irrelevant, You will still be dumped at ‘Not 24 hours’ service stations waiting hours to get home safely. God forbid if your none of the above. In which case, if you’re a young man, you may have mates still awake at 3am willing to jump into their cars to drive the how ever many miles away from you they are, in order to pick you up and take you home. If not, then I’m sure you will get home within 48 hours of breaking down. Your car may not get to a garage in that time, if you end up having to taxi it home and you need to leave the keys in the hotel reception, that is if there is a hotel wherever you have been dumped at, then breakdown will pick up your car, at some point in the week. There will light at the end of the tunnel eventually, after experiencing frustration, worry, panic, fear, anger and upset during the lone, cold dark hours in waiting to be rescued by the ‘4th emergency services’. Been quicker to have got an ambulance out!
