Chose RAC due to great reviews, trustworthy, great response times.
First time using them to report a car that wouldn't start. Unable to speak to an actual person, just sent a link to follow, paying an excess fee of £45 even before continuing with the report.
This was at 14:30, the first ETA was between 15:30 and 16:30. This then changed to a time slot between 17:00 and 19:00. Meaning the wait could be up to 4.5 hours!
Put a Plan B into place whereby my wife was coming to me with jump leads after work. She got to me and everything was sorted.
RAC then rang to say they were on the way but I explained the situation, he apologised for the very long wait time and said to call customer services to arrange a refund of the £45.
This is now proving impossible as I cannot get through to anyone that can help on the phone. Transferred multiple times only for the automated voice to say the line was closed. It's an automated hell-hole of a service, it really is. None of the options relate at all and if I do get through to someone to explain the situation they say they can't help and I need such and such department but then the route to them stops. It's so frustrating and pathetic.
After this is sorted I'll be cancelling my membership and going elsewhere.
