Out with my wife on our motorcycle in Galashiels in the Scottish Borders when the clutch cable snapped on the bike, we pushed the bike into a carpark and phoned recovery which I have paid for for years as part of my insurance cover. It took ages for anyone to answer the phone and when they did we gave them our breakdown address and how many of us ect. We received a text around 30 minutes later to say that it would be around 8 hours before anyone could come out to us. An hour later we received a text asking for the breakdown address and how many people was there to be picked up, 30 minutes later we received the same text again and we were starting to feel stressed with what was happening. We kept getting the same text asking for the same details. My wife had to go to a cafe to charge her phone as the battery was getting low. Eventually we got a text saying that the recovery lorry would be with us in 30 minutes, the only problem was it was at a different address from the one we had given them at least 5 times. Also they told us that the lorry can only carry one passenger, We had to phone them again and got this angry guy on the phone who would not listen to us and kept arguing about the address, eventually we got somebody else to listen after the first guy just hung up and we had to phone again. They arranged a taxi for my wife to get home. They ordered it to the wrong address so we had to phone again, my wife had to plead with them to listen as her phone was nearly dead by this point. Eventually the lorry and the taxi turned up which was good, On the way home I asked the recovery driver to drop the bike off at the bike garage, and then drop me off at home, he said no, it was either the garage or home but not both, as it was late at night by now and I was stressed out and feeling sick with all of the days proceedings I just opted to be dropped off at home. The driver also said that his company do not have any vehicles that have 2 passenger seats and he regularly has the problem of more than one person needing a lift. He said his boss does not care and is quite happy with the situation as it is. When I got home I felt really ill with a splitting headache and nausea due to all of the stress of the day. Now I am left with the expense of trying to arrange transport for my bike to the garage and so far I have found no one to do it. We called recovery at 2pm and got home after 10pm and we only broke down about 30 miles away from where we live. Also if my wife had not argued and pleaded with them they would have been ok with leaving her stranded. Absolutely terrible experience.
