My car broke down on a busy intersection during rush hour, as I was taking my baby to nursery. This was the first time this had happened to me and I felt very vulnerable. I called RAC and they established that I was "too close to my home address" for them to be able to do anything. I asked what I could do, and was put on hold whilst they tried to transfer me to the sales department to "discuss upgrading my account". This is all whilst my baby was screaming and angry drivers were honking their horns at me (yes, I had my hazards on).
I hung up, asked for help from passers-by, and somehow got my car to the local garage, where I was met with actual empathy and a willingness to help me.
Honestly, RAC didn't care in the slightest and did nothing at all to help. Going to change to a different provider.
