Iwithdrew €140 from Travelex ATM at Terminal 2, and was charged £157.30 to my UK bank account. This reflects an exchange rate of 1.123, whereas the rate displayed on their website at the time was 0.88. The difference between these rates is 0.2435, which results in an apparent overcharge of approximately £34.10.
A massive sticker on ATM advertises “zero commission,” so I am unsure where this significant difference originated or where the additional amount went. Unfortunately, the ATM did not display clear exchange rate and didn't provided me with a receipt for the transaction.
At the time of withdrawal, I was accompanied by my severely autistic son, who was experiencing a distressing episode in the early hours of the morning. This made it difficult for me to notice and address the discrepancy immediately.
I emailed them asking to provide me with a full breakdown of the transaction, including:
1. The exchange rate applied.
2. Any hidden fees or charges.
3. The reason for the difference between your advertised rate and the rate used.
However their response didn't not include the what I wanted to know. Their fine prints are as bad as the lown shark's ones or even worse.
Avoid using their atms, as it is a day time robbery.
