This review is about Tredz Swansea, not Tredz online who have always been helpful.
I have a MTB that I bought through C2W from Tredz recently. I wanted the forks upgrading and after speaking to Ifan at Swansea (who was very helpful) I ordered forks via Tredz online to be delivered to store and held pending fitting.
I've had issues with Tredz Swansea workshop years ago (different staff and management) and vowed never to use them again. Due to the time that has passed, I thought I would give them the benefit of the doubt and get them to fit the forks. Needless to say, I shouldn't have bothered giving them the benefit of the doubt.
I spoke with Tredz last week and bike was booked in for yesterday (Friday.) I phoned again later in the week to provide the order number for the forks so they could all be linked together. I was told by the woman on the phone that the earlier I had the bike to them, the higher up the list ot would be. Due to work commitments it was arranged I would drop the bike over Thursday morning, it was there at 9.15 -more than early enough for Friday.
Friday came and i'd heard nothing so phoned in the afternoon. I was told that the bike hadn't been looked at and there was a backlog from the previous day. They were running a day behind and it would be done Saturday. Not ideal but nevermind.
It got to about 2.30pm Saturday and after spending approx 1.5hrs on hold (collectively) I finally got an answer on the phone . I queried what time it would be ready and the person on the phone said
"I will go and speak with the mechanic working on your bike "
Another member of staff (who wasn't the mechanic) came onto the phone and stated that there was a big backlog and it wouldn't be done until at least Monday.
Which one was it, was the bike behind worked on by a mechanic or had it not been started!!???
I pointed out that it has been booked in on Friday etc and he replied with "if it had been booked in then it should have been done" a fact that I was very well aware of.
The job was about 30-40mins so I requested if it could be done then, he went away to check with the mechanic and was told no. I opted to go and collect my bike without the work being done. I needed the bike for my commute on Monday.
When I arrived at Tredz and spoke to the mechanic, he stated that there was a backlog as the mechanic had been off sick - this was the first time sickness had been mentioned. I also pointed out that I was told it would have been done today (Saturday) ton which he told me that that would't have been the case as they were servicing.
I spoke to supervisor who apologised and offered to fit for free at a later date. An offer I declined as it would involve some travelling distance and based on this experience, I wouldn't have been confident it would have been completed when promised. Besides, I'd already booked elsewhere.
I appreciate that sickness can cause an issue and that's fine but at no point was this mentioned until I collected the bike. Some honesty, transparency and communication would have worked wonders. It appears that they have over promised and under delivered. It would have been much better to say from the start that they were really busy and book for a future date when the work could be carried out.
I will never use Tredz Swansea again. There are plenty of other bike shops that will happily take on the work and be open about work load and do it when they say. A highly disappointing situation and it's clear that not much has improved since my previous bad experience with Tredz Swansea.
