Having one's insurer based locally, I feel, would make it easier to deal with any claim face to face if required, rather than having to deal with an anonymous person over the telephone somewhere in the ether.
I would, however, rather be given the 'best' quote when (based on the information you have on file) rather than for me to shop around and then you offer me a lower quote.
