My friend and I recently completed the Kilimanjaro Machame - 8 Day package with AdventureHero at the end of February, and it was truly an unforgettable experience! The dramatic change in scenery, from lush rainforests to the stark beauty of the volcanic summit, left us breathless (both literally and figuratively!). Raine, our initial contact overseas, patiently answered all our questions, no matter how trivial, from both Hong Kong and Canada. Noela, our on-the-ground contact in Tanzania, ensured everything ran smoothly throughout the trip. The equipment provided to us were high quality (e.g. the sleeping bags were extremely warm and appropriate for up to -20 degrees) - and if something was not up to par, it was replaced. Our exceptional rockstar guide, Simon, had over 10 years of Kilimanjaro experience under his belt. His calm demeanor and in-depth knowledge inspired confidence within our group, from day 1 he set a pole-pole pace that ensured we would acclimate. The porters were also an invaluable asset on our climb - They traversed the steep inclines with impressive agility, and always with a smile. Meanwhile, the cooks were culinary wizards, transforming basic ingredients into delicious and nutritious meals that fueled our bodies throughout the challenging journey. AdventureHero's commitment to service truly shined when my luggage, containing all my essential gear, didn't arrive on time. The prospect of starting the climb the next day without proper equipment, facing potentially dangerous conditions on a high-altitude mountain, was terrifying. Noela and her team reassured me, and made the impossible happen. I started on the trek with some rented gear, and when my luggage arrived; Noela and the team arranged to have a porter (Deo) deliver my gear all the way to Shira Camp by Day 2! (For reference that's over 2000m of altitude in the same day! It's like climbing Mt Fuji up and down with 30lbs) He even thoughtfully carried back down anything I didn't need – a lifesaver, especially as I did battle some altitude sickness later on. This wasn't the only instance where the crew went the extra mile. They were constantly attentive to our needs, helping us adjust our tents in the wind, offering encouraging words during tough stretches, and helping carry my day pack when I was feeling particularly ill. Summit night, in particular, demanded everything we had, but ultimately became one of the most unforgettable experiences of our lives. Special recognition goes to Simon and Joram, who accompanied me on the grueling summit push. Their attentiveness to my health during the climb was incredible, checking constantly to make sure it was still safe to continue. When exhaustion nearly stopped me in my tracks near the top, they practically carried me to the summit with their unwavering encouragement. Beyond the amazing service, the food was fantastic. I still dream about all the hearty soups, and the chef's magical ginger tea became my go-to remedy for altitude headaches! A heartfelt thank you to everyone at AdventureHero!
