I’m genuinely confused by the positive reviews. I would give negative 5 stars if I could. After 20+ years in the U.S., I’ve never considered giving a negative review until now, but this experience was appalling to say the least. I booked a car on 5/2, confirmed my reservation with an agent via phone, and received multiple confirmations via email. However, when I arrived on 5/3 after my flight, I waited for over an hour, only to be told that there were no cars available. The agent claimed it was because I booked less than 24 hours in advance, but I had clear confirmation from multiple sources.
When I asked why I wasn’t informed earlier, the agent said he had announced the cancellations, but in the hour I had been waiting, he never mentioned anything to anyone in line. There was NO prior communication about a potential cancellation or shortage. He was unapologetic, and his response felt like an attempt to gaslight me. I had every right to cause a scene given how dismissive and unhelpful he was, but I chose not to waste my energy on someone clearly unwilling to assist. Shame on them. Not just for failing to give me any notice of my cancellation but for hiring incompetent employees that are simply not fit to handle any complications in a company as large as theirs.
Thankfully, the staff at Budget were understanding and helped me secure a car immediately, providing excellent service. The experience with Alamo, however, was a complete letdown. I hope others have better luck than I did, but I will certainly be looking elsewhere in the future.
