Mrs Kathleen Hall
My sister and I have just returned from a "Kew Garden and Windsor Castle" holiday. No problem with visiting Kew Gardens or Windsor Castle in themselves as sites. The Ramada North Hotel was not a 4* hotel. It felt that it needed an update in different areas such as the bathroom; landing carpet on two floors had a hotel in it. The hotel, I think, usually caters for an overnight stay for contractors working on different sites around London, lorry drivers maybe or others passing through. The catering facilities on some meal times, one breakfast and two or three evening meals were very slow and the food often arrived tepid or lukewarm. The dining room was too small and those outside our party had to sit outside in the reception area. On the breakfast side, some food ran out i.e. bacon. We do commend though the staff on reception and the Restaurant Manager, who were very hardworking in trying to accommodate people's requests. Our sympathies with the Restaurant Manager who was trying to run a restaurant with very few staff. This was the same in the morning. The upper eschelons of the Ramada hotel chain need to be looking after their customers and staff more. One of our complaints to Alpha is that you did not state specifically that Windsor Castle needed to be booked well in advance. Not only did the tour give the wrong information concerning the day we were supposed to visit Kew and Windsor (the days had to be swapped over as Kew was closed on the Wednesday) but neither did we know about booking well in advance. The tour guide who came on the bus and showed us around London was very knowledgeable about the history of London and its famous sites but again, if we had known this our expectations would have taken this into account. As it is we expected to have time to go for a boat ride down the Thames instead of wandering round Covent Garden, which as it was crowded was not very pleasant. Gary the driver of the coach was very pleasant and experienced in his handling of the coach, however it seemed to me that because of the mix-up about the days to visit Kew and Windsor there was little communication between him and Alfa staff. The crossover too from the feeder coach to the main coach to London was chaotic, again with very little information from the staff based there except that we were continually told to "stay behind the barriers". This was true before our journey and on our return. Alfa you need to step up regarding information and communication not only in your advertising but with your clients (the passengers) and your own staff.
