I joined Anytime Fitness Chiswick as an asylum seeker with very limited English. On the day I signed up, I clearly explained to the staff that I did not understand the English language, had no income, and was not employed. Despite this, I was asked to sign a contract without being told that it was a 12-month binding agreement. I was assured multiple times that I could cancel anytime. I trusted their word because I had no way of understanding the fine print, and I believed they would be fair. Unfortunately, that was not the case. When I tried to cancel due to my financial difficulties, I was met with cold responses and told that I had no choice but to keep paying. This experience has caused me great emotional and financial stress. Taking advantage of someone who doesn’t speak the language and is in a vulnerable situation is completely unethical. I hope no one else has to go through what I did. I do not recommend this gym to anyone, especially to newcomers, immigrants, or those who may not fully understand the terms they are being pressured into.
