Worked at asda for a while, not surprised this is happening. Absolutely awful work culture, disingenuous managers and at least where I was horrendous understaffing & staff turnover. Work quotas are made by someone in a head office and are usually completely insane and undo able in the alotted time. Health and safety laws were also frequently broken such as not issuing steelies when working on a warehouse floor & getting people to use motorised pallet trucks without training. Due to severe lack of staff there was also virtually no stock inspection leading to expired products sitting sometimes for years. In my case they failed to properly train me in the first place which compounded the aforementioned issues & they recentlyish axed the day shift and moved into a twilight shift which resulted in stock not being put out and the managers pressuring people to take overtime well past 12pm on virtually every shift. This also had the issue of you were expected to get stock out in the alotted time while having to help customers, clean spills & due to the staffing issues fetch pallets yourself when they were supposed to be laid out already. Asda also played and giggles when trying to turn in notice. Disingenuous company , owners, and culture. Unironically better off working at a McDonalds. I did the booze as well, completely impossible quotas unless you wanted to risk injuring yourself and even then in a 6 hour shift you can't really do more than 4 pallets if all goes well and your working at a consistent pace. Plus I needed to fix previous shifts mistakes such as similar wines being in the wrong bays or someone overstocking a particular item which slowed the process down even more. What made me walk out was a manager asking why I hadn't finished 3 pallets in 6 hours in a very hostile way where he wouldn't accept me not knowing exactly why & then swore at me after threatening termination. The reason it had taken longer than usual was it was these very awkward mixed pallets with booze & juice, there were no cages (as usual and half of the available ones were broken anyways) and due to a lack of training one team leader told me to "put the juice on the floor" which I did but he was referring to putting it on a pallet but alas I wound up double handling stock.
