It should last a long time, without teeth breaking off or odd smells developing after prolonged contact with natural oils in the hair and scalp (a problem for me with plastic brushes) The sheath is a great practical addition, in addition to an aesthetically pleasing one. The leather should help the comb from developing a greasy coating over time, in addition to protecting the comb during travel. Leather does a great job dealing with our natural oils, unlike the plastic or cotton covers that come with other combs. This is a great buy, I'm very happy
