This is a great passport wallet and a great example of Ashland craftsmanship. I believe the reason for this being irregular is just shading in the shell, not any sewing issues.
I have a regular shell and horse skin wallet and a number of shell watch straps and all are quite good. Very consistent and easy to work with.
My son also has the wallet in Dublin and he overstuffs it, and it’s still holding up well after 3 years of use.
Overall these are very high quality and last despite heavy use.
