My father sadly passed away in November 2022. Prior to his death he discovered his house was not registered so paid a solicitor to release his deeds from Barclays. When he passed away we discovered Barclays never responded to the request so a further request was made from solicitor. Nothing again from Barclays! Since the house has been under offer from February 2023 I have spent approximately 40 hours on the phone trying to access the deeds. I have been in the local branch twice, I have uploaded probate and death certificates online twice, I have posted the documents twice however still no where. They seem to disappear into some black hole. My deceased father then receives a letter asking him to sign a form for his deeds much to my distress. I could not be helped by the bereavement team as my dad did not have an account with them. I therefore made a complaint as the only way to get anything sorted. I was told this would be addressed by April, then May. I was then provided a timescale of 30-40 days for Barclays to release the deeds to me. I was promised a call on the 16 June to confirm all had gone ahead as promised. On the 9 June I received a letter to say the deeds had been released and we should have them. Panicking I contacted Barclays however it took three separate phone calls for one of the handlers to be able to tell me they had been released from secure storage and were being sent to Manchester. Not sure if they were there as no one appears to put notes on the file. I said I would wait for my call on the 16 June as promised to see where they were. I was going away that weekend but on the 16 th kept my phone with me all day. Surprise-no call as promised which then spoilt my weekend away. I called again on my return on the Monday to be told I would be allocated another complaints handler however as everything is on file I would be quickly seen too within a day or two. Well guess what! No call. I called again yesterday 26 June and was told someone will get back to me however the note on file says they are within the 40 days. I explained this was not correct as the 40 days was up on the 16June however taking into consideration when my dad asked for his deeds it is now approaching one year. Despite being told I would receive a call today yet again nothing. The bank is an absolute joke, how can they not tell me where the deeds are and why it is taking so long. Half the staff struggled to find the deeds account and no one appears to update the file. I have not only lost my father but I have been unable to grieve his death properly due to the mental stress and anxiety I have been placed under by Barclays. I have kept the buyer of the house updated but now feel as if I am fobbing her off due to the incompetence of Barclays. If we loose the sale will they pay solicitor fees, estate agent fees as well as any loss if the house price is reduced as well as how this has impacted upon us as a family. I would never back with Barclays and feel putting this review on is my last resort of getting this resolved. Shame on you Barclays
