I started with 5 accounts with Barclays:
1. Travel Insurance: Cancelled when, after being stuck in a flood in India and evacuated by the army, the small print stopped me from being paid.
2. Credit card - Charged interest in my interest free period and a penalty for going over - Interest and penalty refunded but no explanation as to why it happened.
Closed account
I now have a current account, a help to buy ISA and a stockbroker account. I urgently needed to make a £500 payment last week and asked for a temporary overdraft. I had £2000 in my help to buy ISA and I have had a salary of £3500 deposited every month for 3 years. My request was declined so I had to take the money out of the ISA. When I was able to transfer funds 2 days later I tried to return the £500 to the ISA but have now been told I can't. This means I get £125 less from the governments 25% match when I do buy.
Dealing with Barclays does nothing but cause me unnecessary losses. I am now closing all my accounts with them before my next nasty surprise and advise any other customers to do the same.
