I have always been pleased with overall service, quality and value of all previous items purchased from Bax Music. This order arrived as always on time and was very well packaged. The order consisted of an Ortega Timber Series RLG5EB-CR Guitarlele, and a set of Ortega UWNY-4-BA Baritone Uke strings for another instrument I own. What are these strings? Two quality white nylon, one quality E 4th wound (all aforementioned in clear packs), and a nasty looking cheap apology of a string for the wound A that is clearly does not belong to this set. Okay Bax this is ly not your fault, as you are not expected to open each pack. However, I would have expected some form of QC check on the Guitarlele as this is not a bargain basement instrument (that said your price was the most competitive by far in the UK). Lets just say, a nut that was not profiled on the high A side, very roughly cut with strings seated much too high. all frets scratchy, unfinished and unpolished. action at 12th fret low A 5.5mm and 5mm at high A...which is far too high on a an instrument with high tensioned strings. The wound strings were actually rusty and looked like they had be fitted by a complete novice. Anyway, just as well I have had many years experience working on stringed instruments. After lowering nut saddle by 2.5mm, correctly profiling and re-cutting string slots, sanding and polishing the frets, then fitting a new set of Ortego Guitarlele strings (which are excellent both in tone and value) the instrument in my opinion is a keeper. On the positive side construction of this instrument and general appearance is excellent. The tuners are truly superb, and as for the electrics while they are basic I don't believe I have ever heard a single tone pot ever produce such a wide variety of tone, absolutely brilliant. It's just a pity that Ortega let this one slip through quality control, and I feel Bax also should at least have a look at some items they supply. I will however expect a refund for the cost of the Baritone Ukulele strings. This is not the first time I have received items requiring remedial work both personally and for others, and it wont be the last. I just wonder how may youngsters, and beginners of any age are put off by instruments that no matter what price point...are badly set up. It is the responsibility of the seller as much as the manufacturer to ensure the instruments they build and sell are playable. So, only 3 stars this time Though the worked on version would be 5 plus.
