My 430i M Sport 5dr Auto Gran Coupe is 5 years old and has done 25,600 miles but the steering rack failed and has been replaced at a cost of £3,000. It is out of warranty and a request for a gesture of goodwill has been refused. This steering rack problem is apparently a common feature of BMW's according to my local garage.
As a result, after owning several BMW's including a 6 Series, various 3 series and a Z4 over the last 30 years, I will be buying Mercedes. BMW are not now a reliable brand nor do they care about their customer let alone the hurdles one has to surmount when attempting to deal with what they euphemistically call "customer service".
