On the positive side, I like the two modes (with and without background) which adjust easily. There is also a fairly wide and effective range of volume settings. Certainly, I am able to hear much more, and more clearly. On the negative side, the sound is very harsh and "tinny" as though it is all treble and no midrange or bass, like a cheap speaker. This is made worse when there is a sudden change in volume like loud noise which is not dampened and can be very painful.
