I was lead to believe that this was a healthy drink. I have type 2 diabetes so I bought this product as part of a healthier lifestyle to cut down my sugar consumption. The NHS recommends that free sugars – sugars added to food or drinks, and sugars found naturally in honey, syrups, and unsweetened fruit and vegetable juices, smoothies and purées – should not make up more than 5% of the energy (calories) you get from food and drink each day. This means: Adults should have no more than 30g of free sugars a day, (roughly equivalent to 7 sugar cubes). This product contains approximately 18.5g of sugar per serving. This is far too much for one drink for a diabetic individual. On the front of the can the only mention of sugar states 0g. Then on the reverse the same statement is repeated. It took extensive searching to find the true amount of sugar in the product. The print is tiny and difficult to find. Then mathematics are required to convert it to a serving size amount. This is misleading. When I contacted customer services to point out that it is misleading I did get a refund, however, rather than them accept that the product is misleading I was told that the there is no added sugar once again, despite this being my exact point. Just because you haven’t added sugar doesn’t mean that there is 0g of sugar. 18.5g of sugar is 18.5g of sugar no matter how it got into the drink.
