Purchased braces with plastic fittings for air travel. Clips do not fasten correctly. It seems likely that they should give an audible 'click' as they snap shut, but these will not do so however hard they are pressed.
Further experiment shows that, whilst the clips work perfectly well for my lightweight summer trousers, they fail to shut properly on the waistband of a pair with a heavier, cavalry twill style cloth. When they are working and the clips snap shut they are extremely effective.
