Avoid, avoid, avoid. Sorry if the below is long winded. I ordered a cooker via buyitdirect.ie on 3 April. I paid EUR82 for a 2 man delivery and the WEEE fee of EUR5 to have the old freezer collected (legal obligation in Ireland). On the same day I received an email confirmation of my purchase which advised "1. Our delivery team will contact you 5 to 7 days after despatch to arrange a delivery date that suits you. 2. You’ll receive your order within 14 days of the despatch date." On 7th April I then received an email advising that the cooker had been dispatched and would arrive on 29th April - 1 week after the date confirmed to me at time of purchase. On 20th April, without any notification the delivery man (yes 1 not 2 men) turned up - over 9 days earlier than advised. The courier was very friendly and helpful however he refused to take the old cooker (which I had to disconnect) as his courier company was not licensed to collect WEEE. He also told me that this was a regular occurrence with deliveries for buyitdirect.ie where customers expect their old appliance to be collected when the new appliance is delivered. He directed me back to buyitdirect. Over the next week I attempted to phone buyitdirect on 4 different occasions using their automated system to request a callback - as my place in the q wouldn't be lost! I never received a single call back. After almost a week I eventually emailed them. The response I received was not helpful. Firstly dismissing my email and claiming I hadn't paid for the old cooker to be collected so buyitdirect had no obligation. I refuted this and pointed them to their own website which stated I was entitled to have the old appliance collected free of charge in line with WEEE regulations in Ireland. They eventually agreed but advised that "Due to the government's social distancing regulations we are not doing scrap collections at the moment." (regulations which strangely didn't stop them making deliveries though). After having an old cooker sitting outside my house for a number of weeks, on 01 May they offered to refund EUR20 as they were unable to collect the old cooker. Organising a courier to collect this WEEE waste during lockdown would cost more than EUR20 - especially since Buyitdirect charged me EUR82 to deliver it. In the meantime I ordered a freezer from an local Irish electrical outlet (Powercity) who delivered the item within 4 days of purchase (which included a weekend) and they also took away my old cooker free of charge. I would not recommend Buyitdirect.
